handmade wardrobe tuesday

Check-201

I finished my check blouse that I started a few weeks ago. Once the top was finished I wasn’t 100% convinced I liked it. I decided to wear it for a day and see how I go. Well, the wearing experience was positive and I am happy to report that I like my new check blouse.

Check-202

Some notes about the pattern:

  • The style of the top is VERY roomy at the waist, but brought in by the waistband (I hope I’m making sense). I think if its made with a softer fabric the excess fabric at the waist and back will sit a bit nicer. I think mine is slightly stiff (cotton nylon mix).
  • There is a LOT of fabric at the back, but I found it’s fixable if the top is pulled to sit slightly lover.
  • There is a 45cm zipper inserted along the center back. Not quite sure the purpose of it as the neckline and the whole blouse is wide enough to just slip it on without actually opening the zipper. I wasn’t very successful with matching up the checks on the back, but if the ‘useless’ zipper wasn’t there, the back section would have looked much nicer.
  • I am not used to the sleeves sitting so far off my shoulders, but I like the design and will get used to it.

  1. It looks lovely on you Yana! I don't really see the zipper at all at the back so you've done well sewing it in and matching the stripes. x
