sneak peek and new sew liberated patterns

Here is a little sneak peek of what I am working on at the moment - a house dress for my mum. My mum is due to arrive in Sydney this Friday (she lives in Ukraine, my homeland) to stay with us for a couple of months. And to make her feel at home I decided to sew her a house dress. What's a house dress? Basically a dressing gown that you wear as home attire. Its part of the Ukrainian culture. So, the dress is almost finished and I only need to make the button holes and sew the buttons on. The pattern I used is from one of my Japanese books and I altered it to her measurements. This is the first time I made a garment for an adult (!) and purely based on the measurements she gave me (!). I really hope its going to fit.

On another topic, have you seen the new Sew Liberated patterns? I'm in love with all four of them. The Clara dress is a style that I would wear and I like the key hole detail on the sleeve. I also love the fabric this one is made in, so pretty!

The Esme blouse is so lovely as well. Megan suggests making it in flannel for the cooler months and I thought it the best idea ever. So I went online in search of some funky flannels and I totally want to make this blouse in Michael Miller Little Elephants print flannel! For a summer version I would choose the Liberty of London Jugendstil Tana Lawn print.

The other two patterns are Simple Skinny Jeans and Gathering Apron. I haven't tried making jeans before and I think this pattern will be a good one to start with. The apron is super cute, but I don't think I would use it. So that would be the only pattern I may not buy. I haven't bought neither the patterns nor the fabrics yet. Just dreaming... and committing to using up my other patterns first and my fabric stash.

  1. What a nice gift for your Mum. Thanks for the tip off about the patterns, now that it's raining a lot here in Brisbane I'm starting to think about "winter" sewing, I love that blouse!

  2. AND that dress! I'd so wear that, it's very me. I have three metres of a yellow floral cotton that I bought the other week for a rainy day project, I think I've found just the pattern now! Thanks Y.

  5. I haven't seen these Sew Liberated patterns before but they do look really lovely, especially the dress. Your Japanese house dress pattern looks really cool, and I'm sure your mum will be really touched that you've made her something to make her feel at home.
