This is my second maternity wardrobe project – a skirt. To draft the pattern, I needed a couple of measurements. The first one was needed for the band. I wrapped the jersey fabric around my tummy, stretched it a bit so it would sit snug but not too tight (to allow for more growth), pinned where the joining seam would be and measured between the pins. This measurement also becomes the circumference for my skirt waist measurement required. The second measurement was the length of the skirt I wanted. With those two measurements I was able to draft a half-circle pattern for my skirt (a good tutorial on how to draft circle skirts is HERE). The band was a rectangle with the length being the first measurement and the width as a double of how wide I wanted the band (I wanted my band to be 15 cm wide, so the rectangle was 30 cm wide plus seam allowance). I added seam allowances where required, except the hem – I left the skirt unhemmed! To put the skirt together, I sewed the two side seams of the skirt and the center seam of the band, folded the band in half lengthwise (with wrong sides together) and attached it to the skirt at the waist. I did all of the seams with an overlocker. And my skirt was finished!! For illustration purposes of the band, here is a close up of the skirt with the shirt tucked in (I don’t normally wear it like that!!).
The skirt is very nice Yana! Love the colour (of cause!) and it looks comfy.
